Websites Taking Wagers on Castro

The lifespan of Cuban President Fidel Castro is now open for betting online in different gambling websites, among other issues that online gamblers deemed worthy of their wagers.

Castro, one of the longest-serving leaders in world history, has recently announced he was turning over the administration of Cuba to his brother Raul. Since then, online gamblers have started betting on his life.

One of the websites entertaining bets for Castro is www.BetUS.com, which gives bettors options to select the month or even day of the week, when Castro is predicted to die.

Media relations director for BetUS.com, Christopher Bennett, told reporters: "We don't want to profit on someone's death, but Castro is unique."

Another betting website that entertains the Castro topic is www.BetCRIS.com, which is less scandalous in its question as it gives bettors an option to bet on whether Castro will make a public appearance on his 80th birthday on August 13.

Asked why BetCRIS.com chose to pose a relatively less hard-hitting question, BetCRIS.com chief executive Mickey Richardson said: "I wouldn't want to be a part of that (predicting when Castro will die)."

There is another approach on a third site, www.Bodog.com; which asks: "Will Communist Cuban President Fidel Castro reassume control of Cuba by October 31st, 2006?"

In BetUS.com alone, 3,000 wagers on Castro have so far been taken, which clearly shows how hot Castro is in the betting population.

Previous bets on social and political icons included subjects like Britney Spears, Jimmy Hoffa and President George W. Bush.
